Philippines: Construction of typhoon and earthquake-proof homes begins at camp |

IOM has started work on 350 typhoon and earthquake-proof homes at the Tagaytay Resettlement Site in Camalig, Albay for some 1,750 survivors of Typhoon Reming already living in temporary shelters in the camp. The homes are part of IOM's USAID-funded Bicol Core Permanent Shelter and Community Revitalization Assistance Project, which will construct 907 permanent shelters and five community centres in five project sites in the provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur. The project, which began in October 2007 and will benefit some 4,535 people, will contribute to the Philippine Government's sustainable resettlement program for Typhoon Reming survivors who have now lived in temporary shelters for over a year.
