| Hanjin shows sign of resuming Tagoloan shipyard project |

This development came as Hanjin submitted its applicaton for Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) on Monday, May 5, at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources -Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) in Central Mindanao. The DENR-EMB will start the site inspection Wednesday afternoon. The Koreans threatened to pull out from the shipyard project in the province as it complained of being harassed by the group of Tagaloan Mayor Paulino Emano. The complaint came after Emano stopped Hanjin's construction because of the South Korean company's failure to produce an ECC from the DENR. Emano alleged that Hanjin offered him P400 million in contracts to allow the continued operation of the ship-building facility in Tagoloan. The Philippine National Police (PNP) has formed Task Force "TAGOVILL" to investigate the counter-allegations. The police are also investigating the alleged PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon has also ordered the administrative relief of Tagoloan police chief, Chief Inspector Claudio Mariquit, and Villanueva town police chief, Senior Inspector Nannette Odchigue. Razon said the relief was made to insure a fair and impartial investigation. The police investigation into the allegations personally came from President Arroyo, who believes the Hanjin project would be beneficial for the residents of the province. The government said the Hanjin project will generate 45,000 jobs.
