United Architects of the Philippines
Thursday, 10 January 2008 17:18

The magic that attends all beginnings, the pains that accompany all births – these are privileged memories that belong to the proud origin of what we now casually call the UAP.

The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), awardee of the Professional Regulation Commission's Most Outstanding Accredited Professional Organization of the Year 2002, is an organization with a proud historical background which encompasses the history of three architectural organizations that integrated into the UAP:

  • Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA),
  • League of Philippine Architects (LPA), and
  • Association of Philippine Government Architects (APGA).

On December 12, 1974, preceded by months of negotiations, the members of the Boards of Directors of these three organizations signed the Constitution and Bylaws of the new UAP. On March 26, 1975, it received Certificate of Accreditation No. 001 from the Professional Regulation Commission officially confirming UAP as the only duly accredited bona fide professional organization of architects in the Philippines .

The UAP has the following objectives:

  • To establish and promote the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional excellence in the practice and service of architecture, through strict adherence to the Architects National Code: Code of Ethical Conduct (UAP Doc. 200) and Standards of Professional Practice (UAP Docs. 201-208).
  • To maintain the highest standards of architectural education, through the conduct of research, accumulation and dissemination of information in architecture, environmental design, ecology, technology, culture and other related fields;
  • To cooperate and coordinate with other allied professions, trade and industry;
  • To participate in matters concerning national and regional development of the country;
  • To cooperate with the Board of Architecture, Professional Regulation Commission, and other government agencies in matters concerning licensing and regulation of the profession;
  • To cooperate and coordinate with international organizations in the fields of architecture, environmental design, and other fields of arts, science and technology;
  • To render any lawful and appropriate assistance to any of the members;
  • To develop progressive ideas in architecture and environmental concerns as well as their practical application for the welfare of the community, and
  • To ensure active participation of the UAP in the global context.

UAP is a member institute of ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council Asia), a regional organization of 16 institutes of architects in Asia, and is the Philippine national section of UIA (Union Internationale des Architectes), an international organization of 110 institutes of architects worldwide.

UAP has a membership of more than 16,000 architects in 109 chapters, 108 based in the Philippines and 5 based in the cities of Hongkong, Calgary and Ontario in Canada ; San Francisco and Los Angeles in the United States.
