CEBU CITY, Cebu -- Four workers were killed and five others injured in a construction accident inside a shipbuilding compound in Balamban, Cebu, at 3:05 p.m. Saturday. Senior Superintendent Carmelo Valmoria, provincial director of the Philippine National Police, said the accident occurred when a structure collapsed at a building expansion area inside the compound of Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu) Inc., a ship building company in Balamban town, 64 km northwest of Cebu City.
The building expansion was still under the supervision of the contractor and had yet to be turned over to Tsuneishi, said Valmoria. Valmoria said a team of policemen headed by Superintendent Antohoy Pagarinao, the chief of police of Balamban, were still identifying the contractor and determining why the structure collapsed.
