The Philippine Sports Commission to build Sports Museum
Thursday, 17 January 2008 22:06
The Philippine Sports Commission will spearhead soon the construction of a sports museum that could finally pave the way for the creation of a Philippine Sports Hall of Fame.

PSC chair William “Butch” Ramirez Wednesday announced the launching of the ambitious project after a meeting with top sports officials who will lay the groundwork for the selection process in the Hall of Fame.

Under Republic Act 8757, Ramirez said the PSC is mandated to establish a Philippine Sports Hall of Fame designed to preserve and honor the country’s sports heritage. The Hall of Fame will enshrine Filipino athletes, coaches and trainers who made the country proud in their respective disciplines.

The PSC chief and his group will also form the governing body and advisory council of the Hall of Fame apart from the creation of a screening committee and secretariat.

Ramirez said the selection process will involve the nomination of athletes, coaches and trainers to the Hall of Fame. The deadline for submission of nomination is set on May 30 while the awarding ceremony will be held at the end of the year.

The sports museum will be built on the second floor of the Philippine National Bank building in front of the Harrison Plaza on Adriatico Street in Manila. Ramirez added that the target date for the grand launch of the museum is on April 25.

Other sports officials who attended the meeting were POC first vice president and Rep. Monico Puentevella, PSC commissioners Joey Mundo and Eric Loretizo and PSC executive director Vicente Uy.

Shooting chief Art Macapagal, the president of the Philippine Olympian Association, and Rodil Manaog of the Games and Amusements Board also attended the meeting.
