‘Upbeat’ construction industry brings shows, exhibits to Cebu
Sunday, 17 June 2007 13:56
THE country’s construction industry is on its way to an upbeat development as another construction show is set next month.

LA Ducut and Co. Inc., a local events management organization, will organize the 15th Construction Show Cebu

“There can be no economic development without growth in the construction sector,” said Lilibeth Abais, LA Ducut managing director.

The event, in cooperation with the Hardware Consolidated Inc., aims to be a venue for trade buyers to source new global trends and innovations for high impact construction projects.
Apart from providing innovation solutions, construction shows allow networking ventures among traders, she added.

In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, Abais, who has organized construction shows in the last 14 years, said she expects a good turnout of exhibitors this year, especially with the boom in real estate and commercial projects in the country.

Abais said over 100 exhibitors nationwide are joining the event next week, as the company has already received 100 percent bookings this year.

Over 40,000 visitors, composed of engineers, interior designers property developers, consultants, retailers, manufacturers, importers, among others are expected next week, she said.

Just last week, the 5th Philippine Building and Construction Exposition was held at the Ayala Center Cebu parking lot.

Worldbex Services Inc., the organizer of the exhibit, gathered 158 local and international exhibitors, like those from Ireland, the United States, Singapore, Italy, Korea and China, among others.

Drivers

The construction industry has become Region 7’s economic driver in the last quarter of 2006, according to a report by the National Economic and Development Authority 7.

The sector grew due to the increase in the housing demand for overseas Filipino workers and their dependents, expansion in the information technology, tourism and retail trade industries and the lower interest rates in borrowing due to the strengthening of the economy.

Aside from government projects due to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in January, the private sector also had many construction projects, like subdivisions, malls, entertainment centers, schools, hotels and restaurants, among others. (MMM)
