Eton president Danilo Ignacio told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the resort project, which is still under study, would likely include hotel and residential developments. "We plan to go into leisure-type developments for a niche market,” Ignacio said. “Our initial studies showed that these types of projects offer significant growth potential as a result of the robust growth of the tourism market." Ignacio said foreign visitors in the Philippines grew by 7.6 percent in the first half of 2007 to 1.53 million from the year-earlier level. Eton also has a piece of property on Mactan Island in Cebu province that can be used for this venture, Ignacio said. Ignacio said: "Our company remains confident that its current inventory and its lineup of new projects will be received favorably by the market, given the steady increase in remittances from overseas Filipino workers, the low interest rate regime, increase in foreign tourist arrivals and an upsurge in BPO [business process outsourcing] office requirements. We firmly believe that the demand for our core business of providing quality residences to our customers will remain resilient.” Eton earlier said it would spend P10 billion on several projects, including condominium buildings and mixed-use developments in and around Metro Manila.
