AGFI sign deal with Cebu City to construct school buildings
Friday, 27 June 2008 12:01
{mosimage}THE Aboitiz Group Foundation, Inc. (AGFI) signed a memorandum of agreement with the Cebu City government last Monday for the construction of three school buildings.

The agreement was signed between Mayor Tomas Osmeña and an AGFI representative.

The signing was done at the mayor’s office in the presence of Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7) regional director Carolino Mordeno, Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lorna Rances, Cebu City Education consultant Joy Augustus Young and the principals of school beneficiaries such as the Mabolo Elementary School, Talamban National High School and Cantipla Integrated School in barangay Tabunan.

In Mabolo, a three-story three-classroom school building will be constructed with a total amount of P2,196,931. Another three-story three-classroom school building worth P2,241,000 will be constructed in Talamban and two-storey four-classroom school building worth P3,013,924 in Cantipla.

About P6 million of the total amount of the project will be shouldered by AGFI while the rest by the counterpart fund of the Cebu City government.

The project is expected to be finished before the year ends.

Lily Ann Go, principal of Cantipla Integrated School, said there is really a need for additional classrooms because of the increasing number of schoolchildren in both the elementary and high school.

At present, she said the first year high school students hold their classes in the library while the sophomores at the principal’s office. Go said the additional classrooms will accommodate the incoming junior students.
