Tourism endorsed 10 projects worth P5.7b in first 3 months
Thursday, 03 July 2008 08:28
The Tourism Department has endorsed 10 projects in hotels, resorts, a theme park and medical tourism with combined investments of P5.7 billion.

These projects, approved in the first quarter, include the P1.16-billion expansion of the Medical City hospital in Pasig City, the P3-billion modernization and expansion of the Makati Medical Center, and the P412-million modernization and refurbishment of the Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati City.

The tourism investments promotion group of the Tourism Department said more investments in the tourism industry were expected in the coming months, as more than 60 exhibitors are joining the 3rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations Tourism Investment Forum and Exhibition at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on July 6 to 8. Donald Maldonado, an investment promotion officer at the tourism department, said the event will facilitate investments in tourism projects by providing a venue for business deals, joint ventures and networking among property owners, real estate developers, tourism industry executives, operators of international hotel chains, tourism organizations, and investment promotion agencies.

The Philippines was chosen as this year’s host of the event, which was previously held in Malaysia and Indonesia. Investors and industry leaders from different Asian countries are expected to attend the investment forum, which seeks to position Asean not only as a tourist destination but also an investment location, according to the Tourism Investments Promotion Group of the Tourism Department.

Maldonado said tourism industry executives from different Asian countries have been invited to speak on such issues as prospects for the Asean tourism industry, green hotels and environment, international competition and hotel management.

Among the exhibitors are real estate companies such as SM Investments Corp., Century Properties, Avida Land, DMCI Project Developers Inc. as well as resort developers such as Misibis Resorts, Tajara Leisure and Hospitality Group and Agon Hotels and Resorts Ltd. of Hong Kong.
