Constructors’ group holds industry’s biggest event
Thursday, 03 July 2008 08:44
The construction industry generates over 1 million jobs every year. It also earns $25 million revenue from international projects.

Last year, the construction industry grew by almost 20 percent in real terms, fueled by a 30-percent real increase in government construction expenditures and a 10-percent increase in private construction investment.

The Philippine Constructors Association, the oldest trade organization in the country, has been at the forefront for the continued development of the construction industry. This year, it will gather more than 1,000 manufacturers and providers of products, services and technologies at Philconstruct 2008-18th Philippine International Construction Equipment and Building Materials Exhibition and Technology Forum, incorporating HVAC/R Philippines ’08, Mining Asia ’08 and Modern Home Expo ’08. The event will be on Nov. 13 to 16 at the SMX Convention Center.

The event will feature more than 25,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibition space.

PCA president Anthony Fernandez says the annual event generates about $50 million worth of business and investments.

“The event’s partnership with PCA contributes significantly in terms of product exposure and business success,” he adds.

Fernandez points out that Philconstruct is not only a venue to display construction-related products and services but also an ideal platform to meet the industry’s movers and shakers.

To be held simultaneously with Philconstruct 2008 is the Technoforum, which will tackle new technology, information technology, equipment and project management. The four topics are considered very relevant to the construction business.

Fernandez says professionals from different countries will share their knowledge to the forum attendees.

Over 700 booths and 100 commercial construction equipment will be on display during the event. These represent products and services from China, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Malaysia.

Levy Espiritu, Philconstruct vice chairman and first vice president of PCA, says the effectivity of Philconstruct as a commercial platform has been reaffirmed by a strong return of repeat exhibitors.

“Seventy percent of the space was taken up by those coming back to build stronger partnerships and business ties while garnering more trade opportunities with industry players,” Espiritu said.
