PFF president Mari Martinez Wednesday said they are eyeing seven Manila-based teams to join the initial staging of the league, which will be expanded in the Visayas and Mindanao next year and will culminate with a national championship, drawing the winners from the three legs. With the inception of the Filipino Premiere League, Martinez said he will propose to the AFC that the country be given a slot in the prestigious AFC Club Championships for the first time. Martinez said the PFF has already linked up with Sports Vision Management—the same firm that organizes and markets the Shakey’s Volleyball League and Baseball Philippines—to organize the Premiere League. The PFF, for its part, will provide technical support. “We are hoping that the league will flourish,” said Martinez. Blatter and Hammam will arrive in the country Aug. 1 to keynote the inauguration of the PFF House of Football in Pasig City, which was built on a $400,000 (P18.5-million) grant from the FIFA Goal II Project. Martinez said he is hoping that FIFA will also grant the Philippines’ Goal III Project, which will pave the way for the construction of a football stadium in the country.
